A Nation Under Fire
The Philippines is a beautiful island nation and like and other part of the globe, it is warming at an alarming rate. There are no ifs or buts about it; the world is heating up and the Philippines is bearing the brunt of this abuse and mismanagement. Due to the ever-increasing sea levels, house inundations have become a common sight and fishing or farming is fast becoming an unreachable dream. Cyclones and Typhoons are no longer a seasonal occurrence and rather have become frequent calamities destroying infrastructure, businesses and rendering people into poverty. With the temperature of the sea water rising and the acidity levels steaming, the ocean life and coral reefs which are critical to people’s lives are on the edge. In addition, the burgeoning population is cutting down trees, loosening the soil and turning potential agricultural land into a wasteland.
But the Filipinos remain steadfast! They turn to ancient methods of surviving which are no longer in practice in other parts of the world. Commander communities are building defenses, carrying out afforestation, and even gathering water. They are also using modern phones to inform people of incoming tornadoes and have started using science to sustainably heat food.
However, the situation begs for further amelioration. There should be better regulations by the states around environmental protection of their land and adaptation to climate extremes. We have our oceans full of plastic and other polluting materials and we have countries like the Philippines that are defenseless. We need to come together as one unity in order to be able to have a sustainable future where everyone can enjoy.

We really should take action and mitigate climate change.
